55th Annual National Trappers Convention and Outdoor Show

Location: Upper Peninsula State Fairgrounds
Contact: Tamara Masterson
Phone: 248-568-5804

The National Trappers Association and Outdoor Show is the largest trapping event in North America.  It will bring between 6000 and 8000 trappers to the small town of Escanaba.  If you have never attended a national convention, you will be amazed.  Hundreds of INSIDE vendors!  And tailgaters will be stretched almost as far as the eye can see.  There will be great trapping demos.  Nearly every well-known trapping supply dealer in the country will be there – many offering special “Convention Pricing” – and this is your chance to stock up on needed supplies, without having to pay shipping and handling!  If you would like to meet or talk to some of your trapping heroes, most of them will be there!  Have you ever chatted with Johnny Thorpe, John Graham, Ron Leggett, Gary Jepson, Ron Hauser, Jeff Dunnier, Serge Lariviere, Bob Noonan, Slim Pedersen, Kirk DeKalb, Kendall Obermier, or Darin Freeborough?? – most, if not all of these guys, will be there and many of them will be doing trapping demos – on the hour, every hour – for three solid days.

And this big show isn’t just for trappers.  There will be outdoor equipment vendors (like boats, motors, canoes, snowshoes, predator calling supplies, outdoor clothing, waders, etc.), crafters, antique dealers, gun dealers – the list goes on and on.  And some real gems will be available in the tailgater area, outside.  Some tailgaters specialize in antique traps, others are getting out of trapping and are selling a lifetime of trapping equipment, some buy and sell used traps, and others rent a space so they can clean out their attics and storage sheds!  There will be a special building for kids with many activities for the youngsters.  The fairgrounds are considering opening the award-winning Growing U.P. Foresters Display where youngsters learn about trees, papermaking, sustainable forestry, etc.  At the Upper Peninsula State Fair this is one of the most popular places for kids to spend some of their time with thousands going through the building every day.  This display has won State and National recognition for its unique and extremely educational setting.  And the kids receive “wooden nickels” which they can use to purchase donated items like coloring books, stickers, etc.
