Scenic rivers and lakes mingle with thousands of acres of woodland. Country roads give visitors a brilliant show of nature at its best. Rivers like the Menominee, Michigamme and Sturgeon challenge canoeists and kayakers in spring, and fishermen year round. Snowmobilers find a network of trails tracing the county’s interior in the winter, while ATV’ers find many avenues in Spring, Summer and Fall. Downhill ski slopes and cross-country trails become hiker and biker domain in warm weather. The Continental Cup Ski Jump competition at Giant Pine Mountain’s 123.5 – meter jump; Ski-ter’s water ski shows, and the Festival of the Arts / Music, add spice to the tourist fare. And no one would want to miss the view from the Veteran’s Memorial on top of Pine Mountain.

The mining industry’s colorful past linger still. The Cornish Pump, the Menominee Range Museum, Jake Menghini Museum and the Iron Mine Tour in Vulcan all give a glimpse of a previous era.

Natural points of interest include Piers Gorge rapids on the Menominee River and Fume Lake and Fume Falls. Deer and small game hunting is a rewarding pastime, primarily in the largely undeveloped forested region of Northern Dickinson County. And those lakes we spoke of… well, they are all over the place. Lake Antoine, Cowboy Lake, Hanburry Lake, Hamilton Lakes, and the list goes on and on.
