The DeYoung Family Zoo is a family-run wildlife park spread across 79 acres, home to around 450 animals from over 125 different species. The zoo focuses on education and conservation, with fun, hands-on programs that teach visitors about animal care, rehabilitation, and protecting wildlife. Guests can bottle-feed baby animals, join in animal encounters, and watch exciting feeding demonstrations.
A former vertical iron mine that now serves as a sanctuary for one of the largest bat hibernation and breeding colonies, hosting up to one million bats. Best Time of Year: Spring (April/May) and Autumn (September/October) are peak migration/emergence times. Time of Day: Arrive at dusk, approximately 20–30 minutes before sunset, as that is when they emerge. Location: The abandoned mine shaft, which acts as a major bat hibernaculum, is accessible from a fenced viewing area on Millie Hill Bat Cave Road in Iron Mountain. Tips:
