Iron Mountain and the Dickinson County area, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, offers many opportunities for ORV/ATV riders. Whether it is on a state-designated trail, forest road or shoulders of county roads, the county offers a wide range of trail conditions and spectacular scenery. In Norway, ATV’s must be used in the city limits, in Iron Mountain and Kingford you may use outside of the city limits. ATV’s may be used on the sides of county roads (paved and unpaved.) You may cross state or U.S. highways if you come to a complete stop and cross at 90°. Trail permits for ORV’s are $26.25, plus an additional $10 if you are going to use a State of Michigan designated trail. They can be purchased locally and online at Michigan’s DNR. An amazing course with fantastic views! Great beginner to medium level player course. Directional signage throughout. There is a 19th practice basket near the 1st tee. Playgrounds, picnic areas, practice fields and a deer enclosure in the park near the course. Bring the family!

Largest outdoor staircase in the United States. Looking for a fun and family friendly activity? Located at the base of the Giant Pine Mountain ski jump, these stairs have played host to thousands of visitors and local athletes. Recently redone, the Pine Mountain 500 are a set of concrete stairs climbing nearly half of a mile straight up. The stairs are open year-round for public use, but please make sure to watch for the weather and safety first! Start at the bottom and work your way to the top, where the Pine Mountain Ski Jump and the UP Veteran's Memorial are located, or start at the top and gravity will take you to the bottom. But you'll have to work out your quads, hams, glutes and calf muscles to get back up. There are rest stations on the way up, if needed. One of our "must see’s" in Dickinson County!

Rock Dam Falls Hiking Trails offer a delightful blend of scenic beauty and easy access in the state forest northeast of Iron Mountain. The highlight is Rock Dam Falls itself - a picturesque drop adjacent to a prominent rock outcrop and a small gorge - perfect for a quick but memorable nature stop. To reach the site, head west from Iron Mountain on US Highway 2 to M-95, then travel north about 4 miles to Sportsmen's Club Road. Turn right (east) and go 2 miles to Carney Lake Road, then turn right again (south) for about 1 mile. Continue through a former gravel pit to a fork in the road—stay right on the forest service road, which is curvy but manageable in summer (AWD or 4WD recommended in winter). After 1 mile, look for a dirt lane on the left marked with a “Rock Dam” sign on a red pine. Park at the turnaround and follow the path over a wooden bridge crossing Hosking Creek. You'll arrive at Pine Creek and Rock Dam Falls. Trails lead both upstream and across the creek via footbridges. There are no amenities on-site, so bring water, sturdy shoes, and a walking stick if desired.
Big Bull Falls is a stunning waterfall on the Popple River, where the water splits around a small island, creating two distinct channels. Bull Falls, nestled on the Pike River, is a charming waterfall surrounded by a tranquil, forested gorge. The river winds through the narrow canyon, creating a series of gentle rapids and cascading flows.
Dave's Falls is a beautiful waterfall on the Pike River. The site features both upper and lower falls, where distinctive rock formations create a series of cascading rapids. The surrounding park offers several trails - some rugged and less maintained - that invite exploration and photography. A wooden bridge crosses the river, providing a perfect viewpoint to admire the falls and the natural scenery. Visitors will also find amenities like a playground and restrooms. The falls are named in honor of Dave Frechette, a river crew boss who tragically died while trying to clear a log jam in 1881.
