Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing in Michigan is a perfect way to see the tranquil beauty of our region. Wrap yourself in a blanket of snow and enjoy snowshoeing in Michigan’s UP.

No experience necessary for this winter sport! Snowshoeing began as a way to get from one place to another when the snow was too deep.

Today, snowshoeing pretty much has the same purpose, but is also viewed as more of a fitness and recreational activity for many outdoor adventurists.

You can snowshoe anywhere on state land that is open to the public. If you are using trails groomed for cross-country skiing, please walk next to the groomed ski tracks.

With hundreds of miles of cross-country ski and snowshoe trails, suited for all levels and abilities. With 250 inches of annual snowfall, our woods transform into silent, glittering, ice-encrusted cathedrals.

Many state parks offer the magical experience of lantern-lit cross-country ski and snowshoe trails.
